Melbourne – Victoria – Australia

State League Report by – Glenn Meredith

Malvern Vs Williamstown.

Result – Loss 23 – 8

State League played Williamstown at Williamstown with Billy and Toby Exton, A.J. and Luca all away on Under 17 and under 19 Victorian duties. Also Creepy was unavailable with work responsibilities and Dan Mac, Callum Gerard and Jay Baskaran were all injured. The task of playing a Williamstown team with 6 current and past Australian players an 3 other Victorian members you would say a 50 nil belting was coming our way.
I will tell you however, the 23 to 8 scoreline against us wasn’t reflective of a tough hard fought contest that did the club proud with Willy players even questioning umpiring decisions and coming off second best on tough contested ground balls.
The Malvern men who took the field showed every ounce of Malvern pride and the match was not over as a contest until we ran out of legs early in the second half. Squeaka was unchanged in the centre all day, we had to play Dale Croll on the forward line as we didn’t have 6 short sticks, Josh Naughton and James Garrett ran themselves into the ground, our defence was outstanding all day, Mike Kenlay beat Sam Marquis for my money, Sticky was a wall in the cage and the only thing stopping us being closer at the end was we were only 10 men.
History will show a 15 goal loss to Malvern, but will never reflect the true contest on the day, this was a win for the team.

I was really proud to coach those 10.

Under 16′s Report by – David Joy

Malvern Vs Melbourne High School.

Result – Loss 18 – 8

A very hot and cold performance against a keen Melbourne High team.
We showed flashes of both a good and a bad understanding of the basics of lacrosse.
At times we moved the ball well from end to end to score some very good goals, but then struggled to pick up contested ground balls.
Pleasing most of all was that we persisted to end up winning a hard fought contest.
Dillan Hubbard struggled through injury to finish with 6 goals & 1 assist.
Sammy Anglicas continued his consistent form working well all over the field finishing with 4 goals & 2 assists.
Michael Petrisich tallied 4 assists created by good vision and looking to help other players to score.
Leftie Joe Blakeney moved well and finished with 2 and 2.
Hamish Johnston and Zac Boulter scored 3 goals each after running all day off the midfield.
It was also another fine goal keeping performance from Darcy Campbell who is looking better each week.
Nicholas Kolotsos (under 14) played his first game for the u’16 team and performed well and will learn a lot of what to expect next season.
No game this sat 10/7/10.
The following week we will be away to Moreland at Clifton Park in Brunswick (Melway 29e7).
