Coaches Report State League – Glenn Meredith

Malvern Vs Caulfield.

Result – Won 10 – 9

A long over due win

State league hosted Caulfield at home on Saturday and for the first time this year we had a full crew of 15 and needed to set the record straight with our neighbours down the road.

Our defence again led the way holding Caulfield to 8 and if the attack department ever decide to shoot on the ground we would have won by 10 and I would still have a full head of thick dark hair.   At one stage we had 6 bounce shots for 5 goals and 12 high shots for nought !

You don’t have to be Einstein to figure that one out, yet we seem to undo all our great defensive work with selfish shooting on the cage.

However a win is a win as they say and the boys fought hard to get the job done and should enjoy a well deserved victory.

I’m sure I speak for the entire club when I say a special thanks to Mike Kenlay for his terrific efforts on the field for the last 2 seasons. We wish him well with his return to the U.S. in the next few weeks.

Training is on Thursday night only as there are no State League games this week. We are setting up practice matches against Surrey Park and Eltham for the 2 upcoming State League free weekends so watch this space for more info.

Good win boys.

Coaches Report Division One – Brendon Farrell

Malvern Vs Chadstone.

Result – Loss 20 – 2

Yet another hard game for Division One, this week we were helped out by junior players Michael Petritsch and first time senior player Sam Johnson.

The team put in a great effort but could not penetrate the Chatstone’s defence and a well drilled Chadstone attack found lots of holes in the defence.

This week we have Footscray at home which is a winnable game.

Coaches Report U’18 – Josh Naughton

Malvern Vs Chadstone.

Result – Lost 8 – 19

The under 18 Malvern/MCC had their worst performance of the year against Chadstone going down 19-8 to a team that is not in serious finals contention.  A few key players were unavailable for the game but this did not excuse the poor effort and execution shown on the day all over the ground.  The players were understandably disappointed after the game and will endeavour to finish off the season in better fashion as we look forward to finals.

This week we play Williamston at the Fearon Reserve.

Coaches Report U’16 – David Joy

Malvern Vs Moreland.

Result – Win 22 – 6

With only 8 players this game was simply a test of what these players have learnt and remembered in their lacrosse careers.

We started well looked patient and moved the ball around to take a 6-2 quarter time lead.

The second quarter was the same good pressure, riding earned us another 6 goals.

But like the old saying “a change is as good as a holiday” yes we did both, changed and took a holiday and struggled along allowing Moreland to out score us 3-2 in the 3rd.

But to the players credit they did rally all over the field with a much improved effort to finish soring another 8 and keeping Moreland scoreless.

Dean Parrott did a very good job in goals.

Michael Petritsch was busy all day doing the feeding and picked up many assists.

Speedy Zac Boulter was again impressive working well at both ends.

Corey Hubbard and James Butler talked and talked to each other all day.

Hamish Johnson combined well with Luca Lettieri on the forward line and together with Toby Exton lead from the front all day, facing off well and scoring consistantly once they realized ground shots are the hardest to stop and reap the best returns for their efforts.

Toby 7-2, Luca 7-1 , Michael 2-3 ,Zac 3-0, Hamish 2-1 Corey 1-0.

This week we are home to 3rd place Altona who we only beat by 1 goal early in the year.

Coaches Report U’14 – Gus Campbell

Malvern Vs Chadstone.

Result – Won 16 – 11

Hi Guys,

Hope you all pulled up OK after a hard fought game.

We had a 2 Week layoff and came back a little rusty in the first half.

Chaddy had improved so it was not going to be an easy 4 Points.

We had a couple of players get hurt and it was good to see everybody else lift to get us over the line.

I will make special mention of Alex and Nick M for standing tall in the goal for a half each.

Well done boys you were major contributors to our win.

Also I would like to mention Nick Chapman’s decision to take the game on.

Nick ran Rampant through the midfield and left Chaddy in his wake.

Also Hugo Norris for taking control of the face off and running forward with the ball.(your best game ever Hugo)

All in all a good hard fought win as we move forward.

These players are the “risers” for this week, for anyone who have not received their Riser Vouchers please

Come and get them out of the back of my Ute.

We play MCC at Home this Saturday. Be at the ground by 8.45 am at Latest.

Parents please advise availability for both.

Good Tough Malvern Lacrosse Each and Every Day

Cheers GUS

Coaches Report U’12 Black – Steve Bown

Malvern Vs MCC Red.

Result – Won 18– 13

With only 7 players the Blacks fought hard all day in what ended up being a very tight game.  To the players credit they all ran hard and worked for each other.  The passing and catching continues to improve every week.  This is an area all the U12’s have been working on this season.  It is encouraging as a coach to see everyone getting on the score sheet and playing well as a team.  Aaron top scored with 5-1, Kaleb 3-6, Tom Mac 3-2, Maddie 3-1, Tom (bob) 2-5, Loc 1-2, Ben 1-1.
