Coaches Report State League – Glenn Meredith
BYE
State League had a bye this round and the team was given Tuesday night off training and had a light workout Thursday night before a free weekend. My hope is to freshen the guys up for a tilt at the second half of the season starting at Altona next week.
We have discussed as a group a couple of defensive changes we will make leading up to the Altona game next week and focusing on valuing the ball more in attack as the key to bigger scores.
Training this week is huge and we need all hands there to get on the same page for the Altona game.
Coaches Report Division 1 – Rod Finnigan
Malvern Vs Williamstown.
Result – Loss 3 – 21
Saturday we went down to Williamstown we knew we were going to be in for a tough match, and they didn’t let us down. We had 13 players thanks to a couple of State League guys Gazza and Shearmo giving us a hand, we would have been in a lot more trouble without them.
So thanks for putting yourself out guys, it’s good to see some of the State League team can put them self out for Division 1.
Brad Skepper was back after having the last 3 weeks off and had a bit of work to do with Williamstown’s attack coming from everywhere, like most weeks our defence was solid with Fazza, Shearmo, Zac and Cuzza picking up a big stick as well, they all played well and picked up some votes from the umpires.
Patty Mac was outstanding in the face off with some help from Finns they were good all day. We lost the game 21 – 3 with Williamstown taking the chocolates. It would be good if the players that are selected to play in this team would let somebody know when they are not playing so we can have a chance to fill their spots and not go to games short of players.
Coaches Report U’18 – Josh Naughton
Malvern Vs Eltham.
Result – Won 15 – 5
Coaches Report U’16 – David Joy
Malvern Vs Chadstone.
Result – Won 18 – 4
After a very tight first half against a very competitive Chadstone team (half time score 5-3), our improvement came primarily from shooting on the ground and using the slippery bounce. Our production rocketed with a 5-0 third quarter. The final quarter brought more quality work scoring 8-1 to close out the game.
Toby Exton was everywhere scoring and assisting in a best on ground performance.
James Butler lead the defence again with a very solid performance.
Of our eighteen goals scored, 12 were assisted, a very pleasing part of the team structure.
First gamer Lewis Grieves (an elite footballer and a mate of Luca) played an outstanding game showing great ability to understand and adapt to the game with just a 20 minute warm up.
This week we are playing away against undefeated Williamstown (at Greenwich Reserve).
Scorers
Toby Exton 8-2
Luca Littieri 5-1
Dillan Hubbard 1-4
Michael Petrisitch 2-0
Sammy Anglicas 0-3
Joe Blakeney 1-1
James Butler 1-0
Hamish Johnson 0-1
Coaches Report U’14 – Gus Campbell
Malvern Vs Williamstown.
Result – Loss 20 – 17
The team really put in a big effort on Saturday despite incurring our first loss for quite some time.
Down to a squad of 11 we all ran hard all game and did not have much luck.
We went down 20 – 17 in a very high scoring game.
It was the first time we have been under any real pressure and it was good to get a real hard game and experience the pressure.
In order to rebound we must work to improve our game and concentrate on areas where we have some weaknesses and Shooting at Goal is the Most evident.
In the first quarter we as a Team missed about 6 easy goal scoring opportunities which relieved the pressure on Willy. If we had scored more from these opportunities Willy would be under more pressure and the game could have been different.
Our Bumping Game was not up to the required standard as we still were chasing the Stick a Bit.
The MOST Important thing for us is to improve on are our GROUND BALLS.
We MUST go straight through and pick UP the ball rather than FLICK at it.
We also really missed the guys who were sick and unable to play.
This week’s Rising Star Awards go firstly to Elliot. Feeling sick Elliot still got to the game and played in goals for the whole game. Well done “Elmo” Secondly to our “number 1”, Jordy who was also a bit crook, Jordy ran all day and took on the biggest kid in Under 14s and got a corky for the team. Well done “Jorda”
See you all at Practice on Thursday and Joey have a Good Trip.
Coaches Report U’12 Black – Steve Bown
Malvern Vs Camberwell Sting.
Result – Won 13 – 8
After some scheduling confusion U/12 Black hosted Camberwell Sting. A great first quarter saw us get off to a 6-1 start. The second quarter was slow and we let them out score us through some poor catching and throwing. After the half time break everyone came back on the field with great enthusiasm and showed how well we can play when everyone works together, out scoring Camberwell 4-0. The final score was a fantastic 13-8 victory. The goals were shared around again. Aaron top scored with 6-1, Tom B 3-2, Ben 2-3, Lachlan 1-3 and Paige 1-1. Nathan and Tom M chipped in with a couple of assists each. Will Martin is showing he knows how to get free in front of goals and will soon become one of the big scorers in the team.
Coaches Report U’12 Red – Zac Ansell
Malvern Red Vs Footscray Green.
Result – Loss 3 – 19
On Saturday, the Under 12′s Reds came up against Footscray for the second time (already!) this season. Footscray had been the only team the Red’s had lost too and sadly it was the same result. However, the team worked really well together on a wet and windy day.
The team showed great improvement from the last time they faced Footscray. Dylan Ive stood out as the superstar goalie, while Maddie and Tom worked hard as the ball taxis.
Over all the team played very well and Footscray should be worried next time we play them because this team just keeps getting better and better.
