Coaches Report State League – Glenn Meredith
Malvern Vs M.C.C.
Result – Loss 13 – 9
State League ventured to M.C.C. for what l believed would be a much needed win the boys, Matt Arthur became a late omission with a groin strain, Billy Exton in Adelaide for the week, Jake Coleman on work detail and A.J. unavailable through injury meant we were now down to 4 long poles and facing a team with 3 Australian players in attack changed all that and made us underdogs on the day.
The 14 to 9 loss doesn’t reflect the great work of Jay Baskaran, Danny Mac, Dale Croal, Cam Scott and Shermo in D sticking it to so called attack stars of Aussie lacrosse, contested ground balls are a work in progress for the group and this week again we will be working hard on lifting the % to be in our favour.
Surrey Park at the Town Hall for the “Ron Alaimo cup” this week is the game of games for us at home and l hope a big crowd turns up to support the boys, we continue our push for a contested 100 minutes of Lacrosse, which l know we will get to sooner than later.
I am really proud of this group of players and what we are achieving this year, has been a step forward for such a young group and we cant wait for Surrey Park this Saturday.
Coaches Report Division 1 – Brendon Farrell
Malvern Vs Footscray
Result – Loss 10 – 7
Division 1 travelled to Footscray on what was perceived a winnable game only to have 11 players show up. Rod Finnigan friend Paul jumped into the goals for us while Brad Skepper is away, it was Paul’s first game and after a slow start in the first quarter, possible due to nerves, he got on top of his game and only let 5 goals through for the rest of the game.
The defense held Footscray’s attach out well but our biggest problem was a lack of legs, so when the ball was in attack it was used as resting time.
In the end Malvern went down after a hard fought game by a couple of goals, all the players should be proud of the effort they put in and an extra person or two would have made all the difference.
Goal Scorers – Rod Finnigan 4, Brad Currie 1, Joe Foster 1, Geoff Finnigan 1

Malvern Vs Melbourne High School
Result – Won 15 – 4
On another lovely sunny Saturday morning the U/18 combined Malvern/MCC team played a complete game against Melbourne High School coming away with a 15-4 win. Missing 4 regular Malvern players, the team were forced to work together and displayed some great teamwork all over the ground. The star of the game was without a doubt Callum Gerrard who finished with 5 goals and 3 assists, while Sam Johnson and MCC’s Sam Sheedy both scored 4. Jesse Coleman and MCC’s Sam Maher rounded out the scoring with one each. MCC’s Charlie Timlock was a star in the face offs, not losing a single one all day long. Next up is a challenging game away against Footscray.

Malvern Vs M.C.C./Caulfield
Result – Won 19 – 5
Another strong overall team performance led by our high scoring midfield line. having dean parrot (goals) back from injury, tightened up the defence who played well for the 4 quarters.
James Butler played his best game by far this season with some outstanding defence gathering high praise from the referees.
our shooting on goals is getting better. again in this game the bounce shot outside the crease reaped the most rewards.
a fantastic first up game from Darcy Campbell taking over the feeding in the absence of injured Michael Petrisitch.
Joey Blakeney moved well and controlled his left side of the field in attack.
Sammy Anglicas and Hamish Johnson also put in a very solid game across the midfield.
the next 3 weeks sees us away to Surrey Park, home to Chadstone and then away to Williamstown with the Queens Birthday long weekend a bye for all teams.
Toby Exton 7-4
Luca Lettieri 6-3
Sammy Anglicas 2-0
Hamish Johnson 1-2

Bye
The Under 14s Had a Bye this week.
We had a real good training session on Thursday Night and followed up with a Skills and Field Awareness session on Saturday.
I think that is great as Most Teams do not do anything if they have a Bye.
Well done to the boys and that puts us 1 Step ahead of the Pack.
Cheers Gus.
Coaches Report U’12 Red – Zac Ansell
Malvern Vs Footscray White
Result – Loss 17-3
Last Saturday the team came up against Footscray. Malvern Reds, put their heart and soul into playing against a much taller team, playing one down for 3 quarters and 2 down for a quarter. The team worked really well together and put in a lot of hard work running up and down the field the whole day. Kaleb and Zara ran hard all day and everyone excelled at passing and catching. Whilst the scores were 17-3, the team made sure that it didn’t look that way on the field! Well done to everyone.
