END OF SEASON SPIT ROAST NIGHT
Gus Campbell has decided that he wants to show us what he can do behind the big bbq spit roast and will have some of the best meats marinating in only the best sauces and juices for everyone to taste. My Sources have told me he was the best spit roast BBQer at Malvern for the last 20 years running, so im assured it will be good.
So come down for some good meat and salads (for you vegetarians) along with the best chilled beer and other beverages at the town hall for one of the last times in 2009.
Costs: $10 for one, or a special family deal for $30

State League: vs Surrey Park 8-9
State League hosted 2nd place Surrey Park at the Town Hall for the Ron Alaimo Cup and it was great to see a big crowd of past players and lots of familiar faces out supporting the club and the boys.
Surry jumped us out of the blocks and led 3- nil but the early signs that our group had come to play were still evident and with some terrific man up goals and super defence we were able to square it up by the half, the teams best quarter of lacrosse for the year followed in the 3rd keeping Surrey scoreless and whilst we could only manage one ourselves we could have easily led by 3 or 4 if not for some great goal keeping from the Surrey Goalie. The contested ground balls and desire to be in the contest were fantastic by every player.
In the last we were in front by 1 or 2 right up to death were unlucky to go down by 1 for the second time in the season against a top 4 team.
Our forward structure got bent out of shape in the last as a result of tired minds and bodies which is something we are working on at training but to hold Surrey to 9 goals in a finals like atmosphere was a great result and the challenge now is to bring it again next week to MCC, another top 4 team.
Division 1: vs Altona 17-4
Again this week Malvern could only field 12 players reducing our ability to rest key players during the game.
Dave Gerard was umpiring, Robbie Chamberlain was still out (shoulder) & Mez Clough was also out with an injury from last week’s game. Fortunately Billy Exton was able to join the team this week and was a valuable addition shooting 4 goals & winning best on ground for Malvern. Altona have a lot of younger players like Malvern and they put up a determined fight despite being outgunned by Malvern all day. The first quarter saw a great start from Malvern shooting 4 goals to Altona’s single goal.
Malvern lifted for the second quarter with Jake Coleman shooting 3 of the 6 goals scored by Malvern for the quarter. Our defenders worked well, as always, keeping Altona to just 1 goal for the second quarter.
Altona couldn’t manage a goal in the third quarter whilst Malvern added another 3 to our tally.
Quarter 4 saw Altona lift and score another 2 goals but Malvern shot another 4 to descisively win the game 17 to 4.
Standout performances on the day were Adam Barnes, Jake Coleman & Callum Gerard with 4 goals each. Also seen to be playing hard all day were Cam Scott & Brad Currie. Good work as always by Brad Skepper & the long sticks in defence blocking numerous goal attempts. Malvern seemed to have better control of the ball in this game winning ground balls and making several notable passing plays which resulted in goals.
Next week we play MCC at home. Our last meeting saw MCC defeat Malvern 14 – 8. MCC have just bumped us out of 5th spot on the ladder so we will need a determined effort to beat them on Saturday at Malvern.
We really need as many players as possible to turn out so that we have a full bench as this should be a close game to finish the season. Malvern supporters will be most welcome to come down to the town hall to cheer the team on for the last home & away game.
