18th July 2009

State League: vs Williamstown 9-16

Division 1: vs Surrey Park 3-12

With full team of players selected and only twelve players turning up it was always going to be a hard game.

We started well with the ball traveling up and down the field may times before Surrey scored their first goal, quickly we reply with our first, but the end of the first quarter we trailed 1-3.

At the halftime break the score was 3-6 but we were running out of legs, as a desperate measure Fazza went to the forward line to free up an extra short stick to run midfield.

The standout player for the team was Pat Mcgrath-Campbell who was devastating in the face-off, next week we face Camberwell which should be a much closer game.

Division 3: vs Surrey Park 18-5

Under 18′s: vs Camberwell 12-12

A close fought game against Camberwell at the Town Hall ended in a draw, with the visitors leveling the game with under 2 minutes to go.  Throughout the game, Anthony ‘Ear hole’ Jenkinson dominated at the face off x, winning the ball quickly and setting up many fast break chances.  Jesse ‘CJ’ Coleman shocked and pleased many in the crowd by scoring his first goal of the season in the second quarter and followed it up with 2 more to give him his hat trick. The rest of our offense did a good job of converting chances, with Rowan ‘Robocop’ Anglicas bagging 5, Billy ‘Rugby’ Exton 2 and singkles to AJ and Callum ‘Son of Westy’ Gerrard.  Defense struggled in the first quarter to contain the opposition but improved as the game went on.  special mention goes out to Sam ‘Left-handed’ Johnson who played his first game on the weekend.

Under 16′s: vs Moreland 10-0

Under 14′s: vs Moreland 19-4

Returning after the school hoilday break saw Malvern defeat Morland.

Another overall good team effort with goals being spread across the team.  Next week we are home to Williamstown Fearon.

Under 12 Blacks: vs Chadstone Gold 10-21

Under 12 Reds: vs Camberwell Buzz 6-16

With Rupert and Alex going over the black team this week? and leaving us with 8 players meant that the reds knew that a big day was in store against a bigger camberwell side. With that being said the reds never gave up, but ended up losing a 16-6 decision on a sunny saturday morning.

Elliot, Dylan and Taylah all had a shot in goals and saved numerous shots and kept us close. They also gave some direct passes to our midfield and meant that we were able to get the ball back down the ‘good end’.

Nick, Luke and Elliot all bagged 2 goals, and all goals came from some good team play, meaning that once we can get a couple of good clean passes linking together and running we can score goals easily.

Zara and MAddy played great lacrosse at both attack and defence positions, picking passes out of the air in defence and throwing it back into our attack. and in attack providing a strong option for our midfield

Nick,Luke and Ally gave us strong gut running midfield play all day, without any subs, they still never gave up and played some great two way lacrosse for the day.
