This weekend Malvern were host to the visiting Camberwell Cheifs . The game was pegged as the first of 2 grudge matches between the 2 teams. Malvern with a stacked bench and new jerseys unveiled with mixed feelings from team members, Malven had a quiet confindence in their eyes as they awaited the game to begin.
With the tweet from the whistle of the one and only Fabulous “PHILL” Garrett the game was away ,Camberwell took first posession and ran it down their end ,but with Malverns Defence at the top of their game early it was quickly recovered and sent down the other end via a sharp outlet by Baskaran to james Garrett for a turn of speed and a dash over the center line to the right end of the field .Once down there Malvern sucessfully got it around the horn where it found its way into Rowans stick where he quickly tapped his defender on the shoulder and when the camberwell defenceman looked one way to see who it was he inside rolled the other way to stuff the first score of the day .With Rowan finding the twine once more in the Quater and Croll putting one past the keeper it was a 3-2 Malvern Quater ..the highlight of the Quater being James “DROP THE HAMMER” Garrett putting away a Camberwell player (who once this story is completed will be 4 times his height and 5 times as wide)on the restraining line that looked more like a train running through a piece of thick card board wiley coyote had put up against a tunnel to fool the road runner.
Second Quater Had AJ and Larry take care of the ball in the middle , some very solid defence had camberwell scratching their heads trying to find a clear way through to the cage without feeling the wrath of Nic”where is my sombrero helmet” Lopes ,Croll and Arthur throwing everything Camberwell had back at them like Finnigan throwing winks and finger guns at a mirror ,with malvern popping 4 for the quater by way of Baker 1 ,Croll 1 and Garrett 2 the quater ended with Malvern 4 – Camberwell 1
3rd Quater started much like the second with Larry ad Aj taking care of most centers while offence had some shining moments but also found themselves lapping up a luxury of a long bench and running some rushed plays to find the ball turning over and finding its way down to the Blue end ..our Defence once again returning the ball but with a few tiny cracks appearing Camberwell managed to win out the 3rd quater 3-2 with Ollie Smith and Garrett the only Malvern Shirts to find the back of the net.
Into the fourth Quater with Malvern 3 goals up and Camberwell trying to shift the momentum there way with a quick couple early ,Malvern pulled there heads in a little and took control back in the offence ,Maybe not enough for the defence to rest and break but better than in the earlier quater .with some nice goals coming in the way of Shannon Bell, with a slick high fake to low shot off a good pass from Josh Naughto and a shot off a nice pass from Larry to Croll (who almost tripped after throwing what looked like 47 fakes to which the goalie didnt do much ) who rolled it by low and the highlight goal coming off a 4 on 5 malverns way man up where it seemed the camberwell Defence didnt see the Incredible hulk sized Garrett with the ball who took 3 steps in from the 45 and ripped a nice unattended one low to wrap up the game Malverns way 12-10 .Once again another great Defensive game and good work between the pipes and some controled attack .
With James Garrett receiving the highly sort after Grilled burger award with 4 goals and a great all round game
Well done fellas look forward to watching the next game
Once again MALVERN 12 to Camberwell 10 or BLACK DOMINATES blue 12-10 anyway ya want ,we beat Camberwell!
Division 1: vs Chadstone 13-4

Another week another hard game, Malvern start of well winning the face and scoring the first goal, from there Chadstone put up a bigger fight, defense played exceptional well even after loosing Cam Scott with a leg injury in the first quarter who was well on the way to becoming our best player of the day.
Again Brad Skepper had a great day in the cage and veteran player David Gerrard ran up and down the field all day, receiving the three votes on the day, there was also a welcomed return of Brad Currie who scored two goals.
Hopefully in a couple of weeks we can gain the experience of a couple of senior player that have not been able to play, this will undoubtedly help in the forward half of the field.

This week saw the U16 hosting Surrey at home, from the start of the game we knew that this week would be a tough one. For the first time this year we had 10 players at the start of the game with 5 of the U14 coming up to give us 15 to start the game. Toby, Luca and Dylan gave us first use of the ball out of the middle for most of the game.
With the game looking like it could have been a blow out with Surrey attacking through our weaker players in the midfield, our defense stepped up being led by Jimmy Anglicas who played a great game holding our defense together. Surrey ran out winners in the end 9-5.
