TRIVIA NIGHT ROCKING THE HOUSE DOWN!

Last Saturday night, players, parents, and friends came and supported the club, for the annual trivia night, which proved to be a blast. With numbers of over 75, the club was packed out for the first time in years which showed a great start for the Clubs social Calendar. With Questions harder than to be expected, great raffles and prizes, some tables were in it to win it, while others were their for a laugh and a drink, it was a great night all round. With the “you are all slots” table winning the night, coming back from a slow start.

Would like to thank all the players and parents who came, and made the night a huge success, as well as all the friends, and family who came along in support, it was great to see the club full again, and hope to see you all at the next social event!

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
1. Josh on his last goal rung 2 pipes crossed the line and hit the 3rd on its way back out giving weight behind the saying “Well 3 pipes is a goal”

2. The now famous (just ask him) Dan Mac wrap check on Dan Stiglitch  which is now known as the greatest wrap check of the year ,which rose the capacity malvern crowd of 5 (thank you once again for your support each week it doesnt go by un noticed) to their feet, saying it was one the great wrap checks of the yaer, which after he checked it he continued to pick up and ball and cleared it successfully, this is all without elbow pads.
there is also a rumor that one m arthur was jealous of the event as dan’s attacker tried to dodge him and got denied entry at the door

3. The result of the above wrap check saw Dan Mac out for 4-6 weeks due to the after math of the check caused a Dan Stig Avalanche to fall directly on the Ankle on DMC ..

4. The final highlight once again belongs to DMC – with a dizzy Dan hitting the bench and a now pumped up Rubber Man wanting to take to the field again in the 09 season in a malvern Jersey after the Altona triumph .it was heard the conversation went like this
G.M-” ok Dan give me your gear and tell me how to whack people ”
D.M.C ” Glen  you want to play long pole ?”
G.M-”yeah” (with a kid in a candy store look in his eyes)
a candy store look in his eyes)
D.M.C -”UMM nah ill be ok ”
And with that DMC ran back to the D line (in a side to side motion till he found his balance )

Final Stats
Travis Croll 3g
Josh Naughton 2g1a
Billy Exton 2g
Anthony Jenkinson 1g
Ollie Smith 1a
Chris Baker 1a

Division 1: vs Williamstown 25-1

This week Division 1 faced the top of the table team Williamstown, who had three State League players down in Division 1 for disciplinary reasons, which of course made our job harder.

The game was a physical encounter all day with many body checks coming from both teams, the two hardest encounters were Brad Skeeper coming out of the cage to get a ground ball and found himself on the receiving end of double team body check resulting in a cut to his cheek and Brendon Farrell been cleaned up on the centreline before getting up and breaking his stick trying to get the ball back, it is becoming an expensive season with two broken heads and a broken handle before the half way mark in the season for Faz.

We only managed to score one goal in the first quarter and had many shot with no result in the rest of the game, yet again the score did not indicate the style of game played and even Williamstown player made comments of a similar nature.
This coming week we have Chadstone who is also travelling well so it should be another hard fought game coming up.

Under 18′s: vs Caulfield 13-11

The boys of the red and black arrived at their home to face an unsuspecting Caulfield opposition. With only 8 players available on the day, coach paddy mac would have to rely on his outstanding negotiating skills (passed down from kevin spacey) to get both teams playing under-manned. With things finally settled and the opposition coaches being left with no choice, the boys were ready to take the field.
From the first whistle things would prove to be challenging with Caulfield getting first use of the ball out of face-off, followed up by a quick goal from a player that could only be described as an NFL look-alike, donning shoulder pads so large half his face was buried into his torso looking like a turtle. With our threats soon recognised, our boys kicked into gear and answered back with 2 stylish goals from Callum (son of ref) Gerrard, adding to his wrap sheet with 2 more goals late in the 4th quarter plus an assist to finish the day with 4g and 1a. During his travels to the back of the net he would show to be more than a scoring machine, rolling over an oposing player like a high speed locomotive, which was greatly appreciated by his esteemed coaches (more noticeably coach paddy mac with a huge “YEAH CALLUM” war-cry).
A tough and tireless effort was once again produced by Rowan (Robocop) Anglicas, and while even being severely sick scored 4 goals and handed out 3 assists, at the same time giving a helpful hand in the face-off to ease the pressure off the shoulders of Anthony (Jenka) Jenkinson and Dom (yet to think of a nickname for him) Barker. Jenka made use of the rest he was given from the centres, scoring 5 goals. He says he didnt have a big night, yet coach’s paddy mac and josh were somewhat suspicious. Firing away all day like a trigger happy madman unfortunately didnt work for Jesse (Creepy Junior) Coleman, although his constant barrage of balls had the goalie on his toes all day.
Once again our defence of Courtney (Courtney Scanlan) Scanlan and Joel (Hack) Hourigan-Richmond had their work cut out for them, being the only 2 long poles available for play. But like any good defence they stood strong and were able to keep the opposition away late in the 4th when the game was in the balance. Protecting the net once again our man Jay (Flash) Baskaran played a terrific game, saving and clearing countless times.

Highlights include:
Jay trying to sneak his way into the attack after running the ball to offense
Callums massive hit on turtle-man (also he was the ball carrier, and instead of dodging the player decided to lay the smackdown!!!)

Under 16′s: vs Altona 30-1

This week the U16 traveled out to Melbourne High, we arrived and there were only 6 players.  This didn’t look good for us.  Knowing that there were 4 players coming up from the U14 we tried to stall a little and with Melbourne High only having 9 we started the game playing 8 a side fielding only 6 players. this was a close quarter with the boys running out in front 3-1.

With the U14 turning up just before the end of the 1st we started the the next quarter playing 8 on 8 and the boys didn’t look back scoring 9-0 10-0 8-0, we were luck enough that by the end of the second the boys started listening and we were ably to try a few different things so the boys could get something out of the game

Under 14′s: vs Chadstone 30-0

Under 12 Black: vs Camberwell Buzz 16-11

This week saw the first game of the regular season.  With Camberwell only having 6 we gave them a couple of volunteers to make it an even 8 on 8 which saw all our players getting a run on the field.  It was a great team effort with 8 of our 10 players scoring.  First gamer Jenna Croll looked like a seasoned player out running older players to get a number of contested ground balls.  After spending the first half in goals for Malvern and then playing half the third quarter in goal for Camberwell,  Tom came out to score three.  Kaleb, Aaron and Guy also scored three each.  Maddie Croll ran well all game and found herself in front of goal a number of times, scoring once.  Our speed machine Rohan is like a Hoover when the ball is on the ground.  Ben was solid all day also scoring a goal.  Nathan brings a huge amount of enthusiasm every week trying his best at every contest.  It is amazing how much better he gets every single week.  Nathan also scored a goal as did Lachlan, who scored his goal on Tom when he was in goal for Camberwell.

Next week sees us head over the bridge to take on Willy.  We are hoping to keep the good form going.

Under 12 Reds: vs Camberwell Sting 11-1

Malvern 2 had a strong, team orientated win over a camberwell on the weekend, running out 11-1 winners.
An even team effort was shown by all malvern players, with everyone getting into the thick on the action and contributing evenly to the end result.
Elliot Petrisch was on fire this week managing 3 goals and 3 assists, after playing the first quarter in goals. Taylah Glover was a strong option up in attack, scoring 1 goal and 2 assists.
The Midfield did a power of running with strong efforts by Alex (2 goals), Nick (3 goals) and Luke aka Mr.Assist (4 assists), along with solid defense and attacking runs by Madison and Sophia, ensured malvern were in control all day.
The defence line lead by Rupert Smith and Ally Campbell were sensational eliminating any forward movements by Camberwell and ensuring the ball made its way back down to the attack line.
A Special mention must go to Dylan Ive who picked up the coveted Cold Rock voucher this week for playing a great half as goalie and providing strong midfield run.
Well Done!!!
