Mens Round 2: 25th April 2009
State League: vs Caulfield 5-16
James Garret wrote:
After getting off to great start to the season, State League didn’t back it up against a ready to play Caulfield on the weekend, losing 16-5 in the end. A beefed up Caulfield defence line assisted by a couple of handy american players kept the Malvern attack at bay most of the day, not letting Malvern getting into its offensive pattern like the previous week. Shannon Bell started Malverns scoring late in the first quarter, before Malvern were shut out in the 2nd term. James Garrett scored a pair in the third quarter, while Larry and young Rowan Anglicas scored singles for the black and red.
The defence lead by Matty Arthur, Travis Croll, Dale ‘Diet Coke’ Croll and Anthony Jenkinson tried hard all day, but with most of the possession being down Caulfield’s end for a fair amount of the contest it was hard slog.
Division 1: vs Melbourne Uni 10-12

Division 1 traveled out to Parkville to play Melbourne Uni in the second game of the season. The game started with the ball moving constantly to both teams attack line with neither team scoring for a long time, by the end of the first quarter it was even with 2 goals all.
The second Quarter was similar to the first with both teams scoring two goals each and the third a one goal lead to Malvern.
With a bad final quarter Malvern was outscored 5-2 ending the day going down by two goals.
Adam Barnes dominated the faceoff and ended the day with two goals, Ollie Smith lead the scoring with four goals, closely followed by Jake Coleman with two and one a piece to Callum Gerrard and Mez Clough.
There was also a welcomed return of defender Angus Norris and a guest appearance by David Gerrard.
Division 3: vs Altona 11-4

Division 3 went out to Altona last Saturday, it didn’t look like we were going to have a game at first. They only had one field marked out with Surrey Park state league team there as well, we sent the president over to find out what was going on and next thing we new we had a game. They were short of a few players so we gave them a couple a quarter, changing them after each one. Westy got scared and ran off to Division 1. This could have been the first time in their illustrious careers that President Campbell played for Altona, and the big fella Bradley Skepper played in the cage, and he only let 4 in all day. It was good to see Cam Scott back and also the first time we saw Luca this year, he had a good game in the centre and scored a couple of times. All the younger guys had a really good game, they are all playing well. We seemed to get better as the day went on scoring 4 in the last 2 quarters and won the game 11-4.
