Just a quick note from the President…
The Club is fast approaching the exciting time of the year, the finals, and at this stage, all teams except under 12′s and State League will participate. However, I feel that the real excitement is with the improvement of State League; whilst this team will not play finals; great things are not far away. The Malvern State League is a young side with much improvement to come and other clubs are starting to take notice, I for one am looking forward to the next couple of years to see this team becoming a force to reckon with. The under 12′s don’t play finals as Lacrosse Victoria sees this age as a starting point for the game and believe the pressure of finals might be too much for the younger players. Also, at this age, it’s about having fun, which our under 12′s seem to do each week, thanks to some great coaches. All other teams are in with a real chance and that’s a credit to all the players and coaches. What’s really pleasing is that Malvern is the only club not to give a walkover this season; as a club we are certainly moving forward. Keep up the good work and thanks to all player, coaches, parents and partners.
Regards
Norm Coleman

State League: vs Moreland 22-8
State League, had a convincing 22-8 win over Moreland on the weekend, after being deadlocked at 4-4 at quarter time…
The game started off with a bang (literally) with lopesy in true hard hitting form, except for this week it was friendly fire, and taking one of our own players out, although AJ managed to get up and play a solid game in attack, once his recovered.
Ollie Smith started in sensational form netting malvern’s first three goals, and finishing with 4goals and 3 helpers. He was more than able supported in attack with Travis Croll (7 goals for the day), and Robbie Chamberlain who had a B.O.G performance with 7 goals also.
Pat Mac Attack, played another dominant game in the middle with the wings of Gazza (2 goals, 7 assists), and Jake Coleman also taking some draws and picking up loose ground balls. With Norris, and Shermantor staying tight on the wings and picking up any stray GBs
Highlight of the day was Tony’s goal in the 2nd quarter, after carrying the ball out from defence, his eyes lit up when he had a chance to score, and he didnt make any mistakes.
Big Fazzarino has the ball on a string again, picking up countless GBs and toying with the opposition, while also playing tight man to man defence and acting as the general down back. Lopesy provided great run and a true hard hitting game, always sliding with force, and constantly screaming “Stay Positive”, with Orange Juice Johnson keeping his winning record this year alive with a solid game in the goals

Division 2: vs Footscray 23-4
This team now has their strongest lineup back. This was evident with 14-2 halftime score against Footscray. We finished the game well with 23-4. Steve Bown and Billy Exton did a top job in the face off and Shannon Bell picked up 7 goals with some great finishing off the crease. Big Dale Croll managed to see the whole game through without injury and he is improving each week. As we near the finals things are starting to get serious with a dead line to warm up 2pm-2.10pm!
Division 3: vs Melbourne Uni 23 – 6
The game against Melbourne Uni had a number of highlights/lowlights – you decide. We started the game without a goal keeper and so Dave G put the pad on and stepped inside the cage. Fortunately Malvern was doing all the scoring and Melbourne Uni only had a couple of shots – and they went in. The level of support for the goal keeper was not forthcoming from his team mates when all he could hear – from the other end of the field – was “shoot, shoot” – thanks Roy. At half time we changed goalies and Norm (our President) took over. Sorry to say Norm is not much better in goals to Dave – trying to save a shot with his leg when the ball went over his shoulder is not in the manual. At the other end of the field there was a duopoly on goal scoring – Muz & Rubber were trying to out do each other. PK and Matt Arthur ran tirelessly all day, delivering to the scoring machines. It took Matt – a defender – to break the scoring deadlock and add a third scorer to the sheet. Dave added a goal to give the side 4 scorers out of 2.
3 goals. Muz/Rubber lots, Matt 1, Dave 1. Finnigan did his part for the team by hitting their goal keeper and boosting his confidence. Final score 23 to 6.
U18: vs Williamstown 2 18-5
Malvern u18′s turned up to the town hall Saturday bright and early for their game against Williamstown 2, and straight from the warm up the boys showed that they had come both mentally and physically prepared, along with their stick skills looking phenomenal.
A pre-game wrestle with Joffa-Joy proved to be the kindling on the fire for Malekai (who managed to get Joffa to the floor twice), who came out guns blazing to net 9 goals and dishing out 2 assists while having an outstanding game in the face-off earning himself one of the coveted Grilld awards. Backing him up in the centre was Red, who while managing to finally to pull his shorts up was able to find the back of the net 3 times and dish out a very unselfish 4 assists, earning another of the coveted Grilld awards. Olay and Rowboat both played great attack throughout the game with Olay netting 3 and Row with 2. Both Row and OL also helped out on the midfield strings to give our middies a rest. Olay was able to keep his voice intact for the game, unlike the previous week.
Once again our line up of wingmen Mitchy Mitchy Mitchy, OJ and Mez played a great game throughout the midfield, defense and attack areas all day. Mitchy and OJ were relentless on groundballs all game and provided some tough backup for the faceoffs all day. Mez was breaking ankles left, right and centre with his blitzing speed all day, to create countless scoring opportunities for his team mates, and netting himself a goal.
The defensive wall of Courtnayyy, Gus-Gus and Jakey Jakey (about to make a big mistakey) Baxter, showed to be the backbone of the team, keeping the opposition to within 5 goals, and with stick skills to boot! All 3 defenders were getting every groundball in sight and playing great body position, and ran the ball down to attack countless times ( lucky we still had 2 time outs to use so the d could have a well earned rest late in the 4th).
Flash was our man in goals on the day playing a sterling game, letting only a handful pass him. And while playing it cool and relaxed insisted on toying with opposing attackers, dodging and weaving the ball out of defense with his stick hanging out like a carrot on a donkey’s head.
All in all it was a great game of lacrosse to watch, from both a spectators and coaching point of view. With finals coming up, let’s hope the boys can keep up the great work.
Coach Paddy Mac
U16: vs Chadstone 14-5
No complaints – the boys tried hard all day. Dom seems to be running riot in the centre. Thanks Billy. Backline working well with some really good saves from Toby. In attack still trying to get the quick shot off, not settling down and taking control of the ball. At times when we did, it looked easy! Next twl weeks will be interesting. Willy this week and Surry the next.
Marty
U14: vs Footscray 21-4
Leading 10-3 against Footscray at the half the team was able to maintain the goal production to finish 21-4. The forward line players picked up many goals and assists; the middies worked well end to end; the backline of Mick, Hamish and Max with Eddie in goals has formed a good defensive unit over the last month. Overall the improvement has been a credit to these players who look to improve their skills. We welcome back Josh Naughton this week and are up against the top team Camberwell/Chaddy.
U12 Reds: vs Camberwell 17-6
The Under 12 Reds had a comfortable win against Camberwell on a mild Saturday morning, winning 17-6. This game was a good warm up for the (what should be) tighter match this week against Williamstown.
An all round team effort was once again the key, with everyone playing at least one quarter in attack, defence and midfield. Guy and Elliot once again gave the team a boost while playing great as goalie/s.
A spread of the goals was once again evident on the scoresheet, with Jordy topping the goals with 5, Nick had 3, while Benny, Mr Air Guitar Hugo, and Alex had a pair each; everyone else with Singles. Ben had 5 assists and Darcy had 4.
This week shall be the test to see how the team has progressed; last time we played this williamstown team earlier in the year, we were beaten.
